The Irony of Devotion: What you won't do for love (Bobby Caldwell)

I try to solve problems. I always had to.
There are many elements to a problem.
Perspective and timing - for the sake of this short article.

I chew gum because when I am trying to solve a problem, I get obsessed.
The more I try the harder I chew. Chewing gum and thinking obsessively
can make my teeth hurt. This is when I know I have to let go and let fate have a shot.

To solve a problem, I would try any tool.
My fear is that there is this one problem which will finish me off
and I don't want to go down on my knees but on my feet.

One element of any problem is time. To tackle this operationally
I used my natural foresight and learned reading cards.
When I can see how the problem started, its context, its dynamic,
its main contributor, its potential, perspectives, its solution and its end -
it allows me to see more than one problem while remain detached.

You need to remain detached because if the view at the problem isn't consuming you, the picture of the map will. The detachment allows you to keep observing and gaining more insights without waiting for things disclosing themselves over time.

If time is not a barrier preventing me from getting a better picture of the problem or making decisions, I will still have to make decisions. I always had to make decisions. And all decisions come with costs, with letting go pain, hurtful insights which can cloud my judgment, temporarily.

To disregard time for a moment is something I had to learn. I was more of a 'have the time to be alone with time' kinda guy. But the logos is beyond time. Nothing travels faster, more brutal (meaning non-apologetically and relentless) - more efficient.

Lyrics (listen)

[Verse 1]
I guess you wonder where I've been
I searched to find a love within
I came back to let you know
Got a thing for you and I can't let go

[Verse 2]
My friends wonder what is wrong with me
Well, I'm in a daze from your love, you see
I came back to let you know
Got a thing for you and I can't let it go

[Pre-Chorus]
Some people go around the world for love
But they may never find what they dream of

 [Chorus]
What you won't do, to do for love
You've tried everything, but you don't give up
In my world, only you
Make me do for love what I would not do

[Pre-Chorus]
And though I only want the best, it's true
I can't believe the things I do for you

[Chorus]
What you won't do, do for love
You've tried everything, but you won't give up
In my world, only you
Make me do for love what I would not do
